How Your Colour Mix Impacts You Work

If your team already uses Insights Discovery, you’ll know that understanding your colour energies is just the beginning. The real impact comes from how you apply those insights every day, flexing your style, connecting with others, and keeping awareness alive long after the initial workshop this is all great for team development workshops and personality profiling for business.

Understanding Your Colour Mix in Action

Each of us has a unique blend of colour energies, our colour mix, that shapes how we communicate, make decisions, and respond to challenges. While our dominant energy might feel most natural, it’s our ability to access and balance our non-dominant colours that truly drives growth and adaptability.

It’s worth asking:

  • How often do you lean on your preferred energy out of habit?
  • What might happen if you intentionally used a different one in key moments?

This kind of mindful flexibility is what transforms self-awareness into meaningful behavioural change — the ultimate goal of effective personality tests for business.

Accessing Your Non-Dominant Colours

Tapping into your non-dominant colours isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about expanding your range. Maybe that means bringing a little more Cool Blue structure to your meetings, adding some Sunshine Yellow enthusiasm to presentations, or drawing on Earth Green patience during challenging conversations.

At work and at home, these small adjustments can make a big difference — improving communication, empathy, and collaboration.

Team Exercise: “Skill Theft”

One creative way to strengthen your awareness as a team is through the Skill Theft exercise — a light-hearted but powerful way to recognise strengths and learn from one another.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each team member stands in the quadrant representing their lowest colour energy.
  2. The rest of the group shares what they’d like to “steal” from that person — qualities or skills they admire that reflect that energy.
  3. The process continues for all four colour energies, finishing with a short team reflection on what stood out.

This activity encourages recognition, builds appreciation, and reminds everyone that every colour has value — especially the ones we use least.

Bringing It All Together

Teams that regularly revisit their Personality profiles for teams build a deeper understanding of each other and maintain a common language for collaboration. It’s not about labels or boxes — it’s about awareness, empathy, and conscious choice.

When people know how their colour mix shows up in different contexts, they communicate more effectively, resolve conflict faster, and perform at a higher level. Think about personality profiling for business as a way to move forward.
